Dual Studies

Students

Dual studies offer a unique combination of theory and practice.

The students will switch all three months from their scientific studies at the university and the phases of practical experiences in the company. This way, they will acquire the action competence and social skills required for professional everyday life in addition to their technical and methodical knowledge. The contents of theory and practice bear a closely coordinated relationship integrating topical developments in business, engineering and the society into the training concepts.

Around 2,500 selected first-class national and international training companies (list of dual partners Stuttgart [1] and Horb [2]) participate in this programme, whose suitability is checked on a continuous basis. The 7,000 “handpicked”, highly motivated students will be selected by the training companies from up to 300 applicants per place of study and excel by their high employability at the end of the studies.

After three years of intensive studies and an academic final paper (Bachelor thesis), the graduate will be awarded the title of a Bachelor (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering). All departments of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University have been accredited by the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (ZeVA) in Hanover.

In addition to the validation by the head of human resources in the companies, the degrees are thus also recognised under university law opening the access to the master programmes. Since 2001, the departments have been evaluated and accredited several times by a British accreditation agency, the Open University Validation Service (OUVS).

Since autumn 2011 the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University also offers Master programmes in all faculties. According to the dual principle, these integrate and accompany aspects of professional work, thus enabling further studies with no career slump!
